For a long time now I’ve wanted to start a blog. Somewhere to share pieces of conversations from fellow trainers and horse enthusiasts. A place to share those “ah-ha!” moments, to work through the training process, break down the struggles, and ultimately continue on the path of horsemanship. A place of solidarity so to speak. I have kept journals most of my life, relying heavily on writing to help process many a situation, troublesome horses not to be excluded. From the big to the little, journaling always offers a new perspective and fresh set of eyes to the situation.  So, it only seemed natural that I would share my experiences through writing.

As a professional in the industry, my goal first and foremost has always been to do best by the horse.  And I think part of that responsibility means sharing your knowledge with those hungry to learn. As an industry, we are only as strong as our weakest link so our goal should be to raise the standard not only for ourselves but across the board. That is something that has always been close to my heart, to be able to share my passion and knowledge with others the way so many have to me. I cannot count the ways horses and the horse industry have impacted my life whether through the people I have met, places I have travelled and life lessons learnt. For better or worse, they have made me into the woman I am today and I could not be more grateful for that.

My vision for this blog is to capture those truck cab conversations on the way to the next show. Those philosophical discussions had over a beer (or two) at the tack stall come futurity season when our three-year-olds have us feeling extra humble. Some of the best advice and words of wisdom I have ever received came from those casual conversations, words mentioned in passing as the cattle were being settled but that turned into cornerstones of my training operation. There is always more to be learned and sometimes the most impactful advice can come from the most innocent of conversations. Words that may not have meant much to the person speaking them, but that was said in just the right way to open my eyes to a whole new way of thinking. Words that set off a chain reaction of thoughts and ideas far greater than their initial intention. That is what this blog is here for: to build upon some of those casual conversations in the hopes that by continuing to open the discussion and ask the questions we all will continue to keep our mind in the middle and strive to be better horsemen.
